Oh, the Monetary System Makes Me Livid!!

What really makes you angry about the world?

Think of what consistently makes you mad about the world and what you wish was different.

When facing the question, "What really makes you angry about the world?" many, many things come to mind. I think of the suffering in this world, the hunger, the poverty, war and death. If those aren't upsetting enough, I turn to looking at my own life. Safe, secure, wealthy by comparison to many others. Yet, I feel stuck.

I remember writing about my struggles when I was job searching after college. That was a hard time for me. I longed to have a job I could call my own, with a steady salary and benefits. Now, I have that. A full-time job I mostly enjoy. But it doesn't feed my soul. What does feed my soul? That is the question I'm trying to answer.

Answering what feeds my soul is made difficult because of the system I live in - over all, the world. And that is what makes me most upset with the world as it is today. I believe we should all have the chance, from birth, to strive to accomplish our dreams, our passions, the things that will feed our souls.

But the world as it is today is not set up to allow us all to thrive. The world as it is today is based in inequality, poverty, and stratification. Think about it, the top 1% own 99% of the money. I, personally, blame the monetary system for many of the reasons we are stuck with this way of living. Our money, at least in the United States is based on debt. There will never be a way in which every person or even every nation can be without debt. That is, unless we end the monetary system.

Now I know I'm getting into territory that people like to think is "conspiracy." You can call it what you want, but this is how I feel and I won't keep it to myself any longer.

None the less, within the monetary system, we are enslaved. In order to survive, we are required to make money. Many times, to make money, people are forced to take low paying, demeaning jobs, that in no way feed their souls. What, I have to ask, is the point of keeping our physical bodies alive while we are killing ourselves inside? I believe we are souls having a human experience. So, really the question is, why continue to live when we - our souls - are crippled within our human bodies?

I believe this to be why our suicide rates are higher than one might think for the advanced society we claim to be. Some souls, I think, are more sensitive than others. There is no excuse for continuing this system, this way of living, when we are not thriving.

Many people, though, are scared to think of a world without the monetary system (which by the way, only works because we have been brainwashed to assign value to valueless bills and coins). How will we live if we don't "go to work, make money, pay bills?" Well, I'll tell you this, if it's not possible now, I think it will be possible sooner than we think, to provide for everyone. I think we have the ability to give everyone a higher standard of living than they had before, and give them the freedom to be without a "job" and therefore free to work on innovative ideas for improving our lives further.  I know, it sounds dreamy. But if you like the idea of it, look into The Venus Project. Jacque Fresco has had ideas like this - about a better society - since the Great Depression! His drawings, models, and ideas make our future world seem like more than just a dream. He makes it feel like we could actually make it happen.

The problem is, we all have to come together to make it happen. This requires a change within ourselves, each and everyone of us. We have to let go of the mentality we have been trained to have and open our minds to the world we want to have if we could. I believe we have the power at an individual level to make a huge difference, especially when we can bring innovative ideas together for the benefit of all people.

Just think - no more physical suffering - no hunger, poverty, war, less death. And much, much less soul crippling pain because everyone will be free to explore the world, freely learn and innovate by freely share their ideas on how things can be improved.

I realize that the "mainstream" is not ready for these ideas. But, if there is one thing I've learned from Seth Godin thus far, if you don't feel something from reading this - it's not for you, and I'm not going to try and convince you otherwise. If this intrigued you in some way though, I ask you to explore further. There is plenty of information out there for you, right at the tip of your fingers.
